Scott focuses his practice on transactional and corporate work, including counseling businesses and their owners on mergers and acquisitions, commercial real estate, commercial borrowing, and general contract negotiations. He has given presentations on business formations and the tax consequences of merger and acquisition structures. Scott also represents businesses in Federal and State tax controversies and examinations, including income tax, sales and use tax, and commercial activity tax. He has argued before the Ohio Supreme Court in Accel Inc. v. Testa, 2017-Ohio-8798, where the Court defined the distinction between “assembling” and “packaging” for sales and use tax purposes and clarified when leased employees are assigned on a “permanent basis” so that they are exempt from Ohio sales and use taxes.

Scott received his undergraduate degree in History, with minors in Philosophy and Political Science, from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. Scott received his law degree in 2007 from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, graduating magna cum laude in the top ten percent of his class. While in law school, Scott worked on the Cleveland State Law Review. He also published a Note titled, Inconsistent Methods for the Adjudication of Alleged Mentally Retarded Individuals: A Comparison of Ohio’s and Georgia’s Post-Atkins Frameworks for Determining Mental Retardation, 54 Clev. St. L. Rev. 405 (2006).

Scott has been recognized as an Ohio Super Lawyer®, Rising Star in 2014 through 2021. He is admitted to practice before all Ohio courts, the United States Tax Court, and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. He is a member of the West Shore Bar Association and the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association.

Scott enjoys spending time with his family, following the Indians, Browns, and Buckeyes, reading, and traveling. Scott and his wife and children reside in Medina, Ohio.
