CLARE SMITH LONG
Clare is head of the Firm’s Intellectual Property practice group and is also a member of the Firm’s Civil Litigation practice group. As a licensed patent Attorney, Clare’s practice focuses on counseling inventors and employers with respect to the preparation of patent applications, the defense of patent and trademark infringement claims and the protection of trade secrets. Clare has prepared and prosecuted utility and design patents for a variety of industries, including plastics, electrical, and computer software.
Clare received her undergraduate degree in Political Science from The University of Chicago and her law degree from the Case Western Reserve School of Law.
Clare is admitted to practice before all Ohio courts, the United States Federal Court for the Northern District of Ohio and the United States Patent & Trademark Office. Clare volunteers as a mediator with the Conflict Resolution Center of the West Shore, she provides pro bono legal services to the Hospice of the Cleveland Clinic and serves on the Board of Trustees for a multi-unit HUD-sponsored facility for low-income elderly. Clare is a member of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, the Cleveland Intellectual Property Law Association and is a frequent lecturer for the National Business Institute and Lorman Education Services.
Clare enjoys remodeling projects, entertaining, sports and quilting. Clare and her family reside in Westlake, Ohio.
